Raz Kennedy

Raz Kennedy has been performing and recording in the Bay Area for over 18 years. His performance credits include six years as a founding member of Bobby McFerrin's Voicestra, as well as projects with June Watanabe Performance Ensemble, Toni Childs, and Oberlin Dance Company. He has also toured nationally and internationally as a performing artist, and has recorded numerous radio, video, television and film projects including the Academy Award winning documentary Common Threads with Bobby McFerrin and Voicestra. In May of 1994, he received critical acclaim for his performance in the George Coates production; Box Conspiracy; an interactive Sho at Spoleto/USA.

His recording credits include vocals on the Windham Hill label, Bobby McFerrin's Medicine Music, and Circle Songs. Other recording projects include vocals for Mickey Hart's Planet Drum CD Supralingua , Al Jarreau, Kenny Loggins, Narada Michael Walden, Andy Narell, Todd Rundgren, The Bobs, Rhiannon, Linda Tillery, Rebeca Mauleon, Jason Becker and Bob Ostertag among others.

As a vocal coach and vocal producer, Raz’ clients include; award winning artists Los Tigres Del Norte, Adam Duritz and members of Counting Crows, Universal Recording Artists Stroke 9, Rancid, Davey Havoc of AFI, Lavay Smith and hit song producer Narada Michael Walden. Other notable artists include Mark Eitzel formerly with the American Music Club, Jack Blades of Night Ranger & Damn Yankees, Clarence Clemons of Bruce Springstein's E Street Band, Brenda Holloway of Pride and Joy, Dreamworks recording artists The KGB and Ian Sefchick of Creeper Lagoon, Bert Okpokwasili of the House Jacks, Alex Mandell of The Fingers, Shana Morrison, and Lilith Fair Winners Noelle Hampton and Deborah Pardes.

Raz presently produces, writes, arranges, performs, and produces vocals for live and studio projects. Most recently Raz coached and produced vocals for actress/singer/dancer Jasmine Guy for her new film role portraying the life of singer Eartha Kitt. He teaches private and group voice lessons at his South of Market studio, and teaches a vocal technique class at Blue Bear School of American Music. This Summer Raz will teach vocal technique at The Jazz School in Berkeley, and The VoiceShop in San Jose and Jazz School with Madline Eastman. Raz continues to support local music education programs for youth as a guest teacher at the East Bay Center for Performing Arts and the Oberlin Dance Company.
